An official statement asserts that the OET incorporates measures to detect test manipulation.

OET Chief Experience Officer

According to Marco Delgado, the Chief Experience Officer of OET (Occupational English Test), the test tailored for the English requirements of healthcare professionals worldwide, the organization has established protocols to partner with governments, local authorities, and law enforcement agencies. Their aim is to investigate and address instances of individuals attempting to manipulate the test for fraudulent purposes.

In an interview with The Hindu on Friday, Mr. Delgado addressed the issue of misinformation regarding the OET, emphasizing that claims suggesting the test could be manipulated and scores altered are unfounded. This statement follows a recent incident where the Thrissur City police uncovered a group allegedly involved in the illicit advance leakage of OET papers, exploiting time zone disparities in test locations. OET is overseen by the Australia-based Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Unit, a collaboration between Cambridge English and Box Hill Institute.

Mr. Delgado affirmed that OET has implemented stringent measures to prevent malpractices such as the unauthorized leakage of question papers based on time zone differentials. He explained that OET now utilizes multiple versions of the test across various countries, a change instituted some time ago. He underscored the ongoing efforts of OET to enhance their testing delivery systems continually, aiming to stay ahead of organized crime networks and individuals seeking unfair advantages.

Marco Delgado, Chief Experience Officer of OET (Occupational English Test), emphasized that the organization has established collaborative mechanisms with governments, local authorities, and law enforcement to investigate and address attempts to manipulate the test.

Addressing misinformation circulating among candidates, Delgado clarified to The Hindu that claims suggesting the test’s susceptibility to manipulation are untrue. This assurance follows a recent incident where the Thrissur City police uncovered a group allegedly involved in the illegal leakage of OET papers, exploiting time zone differences in test locations. OET, owned by the Australia-based Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Unit, has implemented measures to prevent such malpractices, including the introduction of multiple test versions across countries.

Delgado highlighted the use of advanced mechanisms and algorithms for malpractice analysis post-test completion. If any irregularities are detected, results are withheld. Additionally, OET plans to launch a new platform connecting healthcare professionals with global opportunities. This initiative aims to address shortages in developed countries by attracting skilled professionals with English proficiency, with destinations like New Zealand offering incentives such as immediate permanent residency.

While the UK has traditionally been a favored destination for Indian healthcare professionals, Delgado noted a growing interest in countries like the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, which are actively recruiting from India.
